COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT THROUGH PHOTOGRAPHY - WHAT WE OFFER
The promotion and development of art in communities is an important part of the Welsh Assembly Government’s approach to community development throughout Wales. As well as an important educational medium, other benefits include creation of opportunities for community engagement in developing understanding of the visual arts, local culture and heritage; arts based skills development, training and potentially routes to employment and development of the local economy through opportunities for development of arts based businesses.
As well as my experience in photography, I have a wealth of experience in community regeneration through my previous work as the director of a regeneration charity and as a community based landscape architect.
I can offer either centre based workshops or short outdoor field courses for students based in local colleges or to local people who would like to improve their photographic skills as well as find out more about their local environment.
Because of my knowledge of the areas, my starting point will be to focus on communities in and around the Brecon Beacons and the South Wales Valleys. However my intention is to offer this as a Wales wide offer, including guided trips to mid-Wales and Snowdonia National Park.
As part of my work in your local area, I will also be able to offer a range of photographic material of your local area for use in local libraries, publications, newsletter, promotion of community activities, to support grant applications and a range of other uses.
I have experience as a Mountain Leader with the MLA and in Facilitation and Workshop management. So, whether you represent a local arts group, college students or community based organisation, it would be great to hear from you.
